Goulburn Valley League Holds Its AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Goulburn Valley League (GVL) was held on Wednesday 10 December 2025. Board Chair, Peter Foott announced a profit of $54,255
for the 2025 year, a turnaround of $141,260 from last year.

The GVL Board remains stable for the upcoming year following the unopposed appointment of casual board members Alice Milner and Daniel Irwin to be full board members Peter Foott,
Jason Sherlock, Ashok Kumar and Sharon O’Dwyer were not required to re-nominate.

GVL Board Chair Peter Foott reflected on the past twelve months saying; “There’s no doubt the league was in a tricky position at the start of the year. The board had to look at ways to save money and cut costs across the league and there were many long discussions by the board on how to do this. With the skill set of the board, along with the support of all member
clubs, the league has finished in a much stronger position.”

Foott continued by saying; “We look forward to working with our member clubs to continue to grow and strengthen our League.”

Peter Foott was again appointed as Chair with Jason Sherlock as Deputy Chair by the Board at a meeting following the AGM.

third time this weekend to remind the community of the resource available to use recycled water
to irrigate public green spaces.

Goulburn Valley Water worked with the Shire of Strathbogie and Mansfield Shire councils to install
recycled water standpipes in both towns in 2020 and 2023.

This type of standpipe supplies Class B recycled water that can be accessed by customers to use
on construction works, and for watering sports fields, golf courses and other green spaces. The
recycle standpipe is designed to reduce pressure on drinking water supplies in Euroa and
Mansfield by providing an alternate source of water for activities not dependent on drinking water.

The Standpipe Cup is in its third year and Mansfield currently holds the football trophy after
beating Euroa in what were ironically wet conditions in June last year. Euroa won both trophies in
the inaugural year, with its premiership winning A grade netball team winning the title for a
second occasion on the way to the flag last year.

The teams will again do battle for the two trophies at Euroa’s Memorial Oval in their Round eight
clash on Saturday 14 June.

Goulburn Valley Water Managing Director Steve Capewell said the message behind the Standpipe
Cup was as important as the result of the games.

“It highlights Goulburn Valley Water’s commitment to finding sustainable water supply options for
towns across our region. Given the current dry conditions and pressure on water sources in both
towns, promotion of recycled water as an alternative supply of water becomes even more
relevant,” he said.

The Standpipe Cup also provides the opportunity to promote the Greening Euroa project, with
stakeholders continuing to work with government to secure funding to build a recycled water
supply pipeline to water schools and sport grounds in the town.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy said the Standpipe Cup is a fantastic way
to spotlight a smart, sustainable solution that’s helping our communities adapt to a drying
climate.

“By using recycled water to keep our sporting fields and public spaces green, we’re easing the
pressure on drinking water and building a more resilient future for Euroa,” she said.
“We’re proud to be able to bring the importance of the Greening Euroa project to the attention of
the community.”

To make this project a reality, $3.8 million in funding from Victorian and Federal Government
grants in water infrastructure and innovation sectors is required. The proposal ticks all the boxes
of being a climate smart, cost efficient and community inspired project.

A Message from our Partners at the Goulburn Valley Health Public Health Unit.

Your Health Isn’t a Hack – It’s a Game Plan

Let’s be real: your health is your edge. Want to stay sharp and ahead of the game? Start here.

Too many men put off going to the doctor — even when they know something’s wrong. That delay can cost more than time. It can cost your health.

Here’s what we know:

49% of Aussie men live with at least one chronic condition.

43% have experienced a mental health challenge.

Only 3% of men eat the recommended amount of fruit and veg.

And men visit the doctor far less often than women.

The upside? Most health issues are easier to manage if you catch them early. So here’s your simple, effective game plan:

Move More

Get your heart rate up. Just 2.5 hours of moderate activity a week makes a huge difference.

Eat Like You Mean It

Fresh fruit, veg, whole grains, lean meats. Skip the junk.

Quit the Dead Weight

Smoking, vaping, heavy drinking, drug use? Ditch it. Your body bounces back faster than you think.

Check Your Headspace

Stress, mood swings, anger — don’t ignore the signs. Real strength is asking for help when you need it.

Sleep Like You Mean It

7–8 hours a night. Sleep isn’t a luxury — it’s your foundation.

See a Doctor (Before You Need One)

Check in regularly. Know your numbers. And stay up to date with your vaccinations.

“Making healthy choices in your life makes the real difference. One of the most important choices you can make is to regularly see your GP.”
— Dr Will Cross, GV Public Health Unit

This weekend is the SAY NO TO VIOLENCE ROUND in the Goulburn Valley League.

This Round is a whole of League and whole of community response to raise awareness of and prevent family violence in our communities. This round sends a powerful message that Violence is not acceptable in any way shape or form.

Our Senior Football and Netball players are leaders in their communities.

Sporting clubs are the grass roots of our communities and as senior players, as leaders, they, along with every single one of us, must all lead the way for our future generations.

The motto for the day is ‘You Can’t Shake a Hand with a Closed Fist’.

Think twice before you strike!

The force of violent actions or any other form of violence can have a huge impact on a person’s life, their family, and some people’s entire lives.

The Say No to Violence rounds have been promoting anti-violence messages throughout our communities for the past twelve years.

These rounds signify a movement within sporting clubs, as we all band together and say enough is enough, we as a community Say No to Violence, in any way shape or form.

We must all lead by example and pave the way for a brighter, happier, and safer future for all.

Senior footballers and netballers, umpires and club officials at every GVL game this weekend, will line up prior each game where an address will occur.

Players will then meet their opponent in the middle to shake hands as their commitment to reduce, prevent and stand up against violence and call it out!

By shaking hands with their opponent, they are also committing to calling out violence against women and children and are also contributing to a future free from violence.

We invite you join in at all games across our League this weekend.

The Goulburn Valley League congratulates Seymour FNC player Casey Drmmond on her 150th club game.

The club had this to say:

After starting her netball journey with the Seymour Junior FNC, Casey took the next step in her development by joining Nagambie in the KDFNL. Driven by a hunger for more competitive netball, she joined the Den in 2019.

Originally brought in as a reliable shooter, Casey has evolved into a dominant midcourt force, consistently running rings around her opponents. Her versatility on court has made her a vital asset to the Lions.

Casey’s impact has gone far beyond her playing ability. She’s been a standout leader since joining the club—named captain on 3 occasions, and continuing to lead by example. Her leadership helped guide the team to two B Reserve premierships, and she has been a key contributor off the court as well, serving on the social committee and, in 2025, stepping into a shared role as the club’s Child Safety Officer.

A three-time B Reserve Best & Fairest winner, Casey’s dedication, consistency, and club-first attitude have made her a cornerstone of the Seymour Football Netball Club.

*From AFL Victoria

The WorkSafe Country Club Series continues in the heart of Goulburn Murray this weekend, with the Kyabram Football and Netball Club (FNC) hosting the Shepparton FNC in AFL Victoria’s country footy feature event.

Kyabram is a strong agricultural community, particularly in dairy farming, and has a passionate sporting culture that makes the Bombers the perfect host for WorkSafe’s second Country Club Game of the year.

The WorkSafe Country Club Game will put the Kyabram community in the spotlight throughout the week with visits from Western Bulldogs 2016 premiership player Tom Boyd, and Melbourne Vixens players Emily Mannix and Lisa Alexander.

The WorkSafe Country Club Games initiative aims to champion regional communities and their volunteers, whilst serving as a platform for supporting these football and netball clubs to promote the importance of workplace safety.

By taking part in the week, Kyabram FNC also receive a financial contribution from WorkSafe, along with new footballs, netballs and goal post padding to support the club.

Head of AFL Victoria, Greg Madigan, said that the week is a terrific opportunity for the local community to come together and remind each other of why it’s important to keep each other safe at work.

“We know that our country footy participants have a lot going on off the field, often working physical and sometimes dangerous jobs, and that’s why it is so important for these communities to look out for each other and protect their health and safety.

“WorkSafe has been a tremendous supporter of Victorian country footy for more than 20 years now, and the relevance is as clear as ever – stay safe at work, and we’ll all keep coming to the footy on a Saturday to enjoy a kick and spending time with our mates and families.”

WorkSafe Chief Executive Officer, Ashley West said the community spirit of country sporting clubs had set a winning example for regional workplaces to follow.

“The best players know they need to look out for their teammates, and we want to see Victorians bring that same approach to safety at work,” Mr West said.

“Safety should never be a solo effort – and we want farmers, even those who work alone, to partner with WorkSafe to help avoid unnecessary time on the sidelines with a workplace injury.”

This weekend will be the second of six WorkSafe Country Club Games for 2025, and by focusing on agricultural communities where risks of injury are heightened, WorkSafe aims to build connections and deliver essential safety guidance to safeguard at-risk Victorians.

The Goulburn Valley League congratulates Shepparton Swans FNC player Ella Cirillo on her 150th club game.

The club had this to say:

Congratulations Ella. 150 club games, what an amazing achievement.

Ella started started her career at the Shepp Swans in 2016 at just 14 years of age playing in our U17s team for two years, she then stepped up into our B grade side while still eligible for U17s.

In 2019 Ella made her A grade Debut as a goaler but over the last few season has transitioned to the defence end where she has found her calling. She is a tough competitor never hesitating to step down from a challenge.

Ella is one of our top club members, there isn’t anything she won’t do. She’s always the first to put her hand up for a job, she’s a part of our social committee and over the past few seasons has begun coaching in 2024 leading our BReserve side to a finals appearance and this season stepping into junior development leading the U17 side.

We’re so proud to call you a Swannie and look forward to seeing what else you can achieve in red and white
