GOTAFE GVL Juniors Season Cancelled
During the current pandemic, the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League’s (GVL) number one priority has continued to be the health and wellbeing of its supporters, players, umpires, officials, partners, volunteers and committees and everyone across all of our local communities.
Following the decision to cancel Round 2 of the Junior season, the GVL Board met earlier this evening to review the future of the competition this year. This also included the review of the latest State Government advice which indicates that Regional Victoria will be moving to Stage 3 restrictions, with only a limited number of reasons allowing people to be outside of their homes.
In the light of this advice and together with pre-existing concerns the Board has made the unanimous decision to cancel the GVL Juniors season for 2020. Clubs were informed at a President’s meeting later in the evening.
GVL Board Chairman David Roff said, “The cancellation of Round 2 games this weekend after several clubs advised the league late Friday afternoon that there may be possible positive cases that may potentially be linked to several GVL clubs, was the beginning of the end. Subsequent to this, the State Government provided advice on Stage 3 restrictions.”
Mr Roff continued by saying that, “We have been monitoring the situation closely. The board has tried everything we could to facilitate a competition for our Juniors, with the assistance of our Clubs, but this is now not possible.”
League Operations Manager Josephine Spencer said, “Whilst the 2020 season has been different to any we have ever known, we will continue to support our clubs and begin our planning for 2021 with all twelve clubs ready to participate. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our club volunteers, club executives and committees, players, community members, our valued sponsors and AFL Goulburn Murray for their patience and ongoing support as we have been navigating through these unprecedented times.”
