Annual Blue Ribbon Shield Match – Shepparton Swans FNC v Mooroopna FNC
The Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation perpetuates the memory of the 174 Victoria Police Officers that have died in the line of duty. The Foundation provides funding to public hospitals in Victoria for life saving medical services and equipment that are dedicated to the memory of fallen police officers. To date over $11 million has been contributed to 26 hospitals for 61 projects dedicated in honour of police members. Remembering Lives by Saving Others.
Our local Greater Shepparton Branch of the Blue Ribbon Foundation has been active in our community for approaching 20 years. The Branch, with amazing support from the local community, has previously provided funding to Goulburn Valley Health for the Eyre-Tynan Emergency Department and the Ray Denman Short Stay Unit. In (August) 2022 the Branch will provide a further $220,000 to Goulburn Valley Health. A re-dedication will also take place for these departments in the new Goulburn Valley Health redevelopment and at the same time dedicate a new hospital facility and remember all Victoria Police members who have died in the line of duty.
The Foundation has a long history of engagement with sporting clubs, bringing together the community and its police members. The annual GVL Blue Ribbon Shield commenced in 2002. It takes place for the Shepparton Swans and Mooroopna Cats clash each year. The Shield is awarded to the Club that wins the majority of results across all grades of football and netball on the day. The support from the two clubs and the GVL continues into 2022. The Foundation recognises both clubs and the GVL for this ongoing support and commitment.
This year is the 20th year of the battle for the Shield! Princess Park on Sunday 19 June, 2022. We wish both Clubs, footballers and netballers well for their games. Beautifully struck medallions will be awarded to best players in all grades. A line up of players, umpires, officials and police will take place prior to the Senior football.
Together we remember them.
