The Annual General Meeting of the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley League was held on Wednesday 23 November 2022.
Board Chair Jacqui Hudgson announced a loss of $45,968 for the 2021/2022 season.
Despite this result, the League is in a strong financial position with Net Assets of $163,722.
Hudgson said, “The loss can be explained through items not considered/fully considered in the original budget such as Interleague, livestreaming, statistics, Strategic Plan etc.”
The introduction of Livestreaming this season saw the League expand its media coverage of the GVL. Hudgson said, “Switching providers to Cluch TV at Round 10 meant that our budgeted costs did increase but we now have a dedicated GVL Channel on the Cluch platform. We are currently developing new assets for the GVL and clubs’ commercial benefit in season 2023 and beyond.”
2022 also saw the introduction of the GVL Statistics, which was welcomed by clubs and coaches in particular. Given the League saw that the resource would be invaluable to clubs, it was considered an investment when it was agreed that we would start supplying stats to clubs from Round 1.
With the investments made in live streaming and statistics, the GVL is well placed to continue to increase its sponsorship revenue as more opportunities for sponsor activations can now be provided.
Hudgson also said, “We are excited to announce that our 5-year strategic plan is close to be finalised with club delegates shown a final draft at the General meeting last night following the AGM. This will provide a clear vision and path through the coming years.”
The GVL Board sees some changes with Amy Marshall not seeking re-election. Current Board members Jacqui Hudgson, Sandy Witham and David Roff all re-nominated, and nominations were also received from three additional nominees. After a vote by Club Delegates, Jacqui Hudgson was re-elected, along with Peter Foott, Peter Cardamone and John Byrnes. Sandy Witham and David Roff were not re-elected.
Hudgson took the opportunity to thank outgoing board members. “I’d like to pay tribute to Amy, Sandy and David. Amy was elected to the Board in 2019 and has a great contributor.”
“Sandy brought a wealth of experience across all aspects of netball having previously been on the GVNL Board as Junior Vice President and Treasurer. She was a founding GVL Board member when the netball and football leagues merged.”
“David was elected to the Board in 2011. He served as League Chairman from 2017 until earlier this year. Both Sandy and David were members of the Leagues Audit & Risk Committee.”
“The three outgoing Board members contribution to the Board and the League has been invaluable.”
Hudgson also said, “We welcome incoming Board members Peter Foott, Peter Cardamone and John Byrnes to the GVL Board. Each brings a wealth of experience to the Board and I, along with the rest of the Board, look forward to working with them as we continue the great work of the GVL. Our vision for the GVL is significant and our goals diverse. They allow us to navigate our collective short-term challenges, while creating a foundation for our long-term success.”
The Board of the GVL look forward to working together, alongside our member clubs, to ensure this long term success.
